In March 2005 we added advertising to support Wordplays.

For years we used the Amazon Honor system and accepted donations. I want to sincerely thank all of those who made donations over the years. Although they were not enough to offset the costs associated with running the site, they demonstrated support and appreciation for the site and all the effort that has gone in to it. Thank You!

I am aware some of the advertising may be very distracting, particularly while attempting to play games. I am concerned about this and will continually try to remove the most distracting or inappropriate ads. I do not always have direct control over which ads are delivered to the site. There are hundreds of ads automatically sent by the advertising agencies, and it is a big effort to constantly weed out inappropriate ads. If there is a particular ad that is offensive, please send feedback and I will try to remove it.

Currently, most visitors will see two or three pop up or pop under ads within the first dozen clicks on the site. After that, popup ads should not reappear until you close your browser, allowing you to play games with minimal interruption.

Standard ads will appear on every page and text ads or ads with minimal animation have precedence while games are playing. Still, animated ads may appear at any time. If you are attempting to play a game and find the advertisement too distracting, simply get a New Puzzle and the ad will change.

If you still find the ads too distracting, you may suppress the ads for a nominal fee.
