Don't start at a random spot on the grid. It's often very helpful to start with a systematic approach instead of simply diving in.
It's easy to let the simple answers go unnoticed if you try to solve
the whole puzzle at once. Start with the rows, columns, or 3x3 areas
that have the fewest empty squares and try to find the solutions for
those squares first.
The simplest strategy is the process of elimination. Find the squares with the least poibble number of answers and track those first.
Using pencil marks is imperative. Chances are, unless you are a human
supercomputer or a robot, if you try and keep track of every
possibility for every square on the grid, you will lose track
quickly. So take notes using pencil marks: Wordplays.com allows you to type multiple guesses in the
each square so you don't have to melt your brain trying to mentally keep track.
When you have a few empty squares in a row, don't forget about the
columns or 3x3's that also intersect with that space. When stuck on a
particular spot, try taking a step back and looking at that same spot
by row, then by column, or by 3x3 square, starting with the the row,
column or 3x3 square that has the fewest missing clues.
